We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Ruth Anne Palmer at the age of 82, at Chester Village Retirement Home in Toronto. Ruth was born in Wheatley Ontario, the middle child of Henry and Mary Kornelsen, (nee Enns). She is predeceased by her parents, sister Marlene (Ron) Dumouchelle, brothers John (Sherry) and Herb (Clara) Kornelsen. She will be missed by her sister Margreta (Stan) Gronski, nephews and nieces, Deanne and John, David and Wasif, Wayne and Wendy, Doug and Trish, Andrea and Sam, Drew and Deanna.
Ruth started her working career in Wheatley Ontario as a Bell telephone operator. After graduation from London Teacher’s College she taught in a rural schoolhouse in Mersea Township. One of her duties was to keep the pot bellied stove burning. She decided this career was not for her and took a job with North American Life in Toronto becoming a group pension supervisor. Later she graduated from the Honeywell Institute and took a job as a computer programmer with CIBC.
Ruth loved to read, was an avid card player, loved crosswords and in her later years did lots of Fillin word puzzles.
There will be a visitation at 1pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm on Sunday December 12, 2021, at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home 2900 Kingston Road, Scarborough, M1M1N5. Only double vaccinated people may attend. Due to covid there will not be a reception. Gloria Joyce Gaitskell, age 84, of Toronto, Ontario passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. Gloria was born July 23, 1937 in Toronto, ON.

It is with enormous sadness, that Marilyn Marie Conquer (nee MacLeod), 87, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021. Our mother fought courageously and optimistically for a number of years, managing her many health issues. Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Derek John Conquer. She was the dear mother of Jane (Steve Boehmer), Jeff (Judy Conquer) and Jennifer (Don Hill). She was the loving grandmother to Courtney (Bobby Caughey), Jonathan Boehmer (Ashley), and Andrew Boehmer (Ruthanne); Brittney (Ryan Fitzgerald), Brennen, Shelby and Kyle Conquer; Brodie, Madeline, and Henry Hill. She was the great-grandmother to Reese Caughey, Aria Fitzgerald, Graham Caughey, and Oaklynn Boehmer. The family acknowledges and thanks, with deep appreciation and gratitude, the many doctors who took exceptional care of our mother over the years, as well as more recently, her Palliative care team and her caregivers. Marilyn will be missed by her brother-in-law, Phillip Conquer, extended family of nieces and nephews, her church family and many others who knew and loved her. 93, passed away on October 9, 2021, at Providence Unity with her daughter Linda at her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and more recently cancer. Dorothy was born December 28, 1927 to Elizabeth and George Porter in Holywood, Ireland. She immigrated to Canada in 1952. She is survived by her son and daughter, Colin and Linda and by her nephew Dermot O’Brien. A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 27th at Jubilee United Church.

SEYMOUR, William (Bill)   –  July 17, 1929 – September 7, 2021

Peacefully at home on September 7, surrounded by his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, June and his sons David (Melanie) and Robert (Pam) and Wendy, and his grandchildren Daniel, Mia, Andrew, Scott, Maggie, and Jessie.

Bill was an incredible husband, dad, brother, grandpa, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a big sports fan who loved playing and watching baseball, golf, and fishing.

Bill also enjoyed a good game of bridge or cribbage and going to the horse races with his friends.

His main passion was spending time with his family and especially his grandkids, either at home or at his favourite spot at the family cottage on Buckhorn Lake.

Cremation has taken place.

Bathed in the warm hues of the rising sun, our beloved John Coull slipped peacefully from this life into the next, following a stroke.

John was born on February 17th, 1951 to parents Margaret and Robert Coull. He grew up in Scarborough, along with his two younger siblings, Doug and Sandra. John discovered a love for music and golf early on, and both passions stayed with him his whole life. In particular, it was jazz and big band that captured his heart strongest; John’s “working music” at home was usually Arturo Sandoval, Maynard Ferguson, or Dizzy Gillespie, at maximum volume.

While John was often busy with work or playing trumpet with Toronto big band The Skyliners, he found time for golf as often as he could. Son Colin shared John’s love for golf, and the two played together as often as they could. John loved the annual “Guys’ Golf Trip to Myrtle” with Colin, Doug, and a few of their friends, spending a week golfing in autumnal Myrtle Beach.

John and Brenda (nee Burke) married in 1974, and had two children: Colin (Tori; Kingston and Kenzie) and Cheryl (Jasen; William). John always made time for his children’s activities, including Colin’s Scouting activities and Cheryl’s many dance competitions; he was always an enthusiastic cheering section! When his grandchildren came along John was just as excited, taking them to playgroups and parks, out for Timbits, and learning everything he could about what they enjoyed. He learned a great deal about superheroes (Kingston), princesses (Kenzie), and Star Wars (William), listening happily to everything they taught him.

After a career with the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Fire Marshalls office, John spent the final years of work with Origin and Cause, Inc. Always eager to solve the mystery, John’s police skills and fire investigation skills kept him curious and determined, eager to apply what he knew to the pursuit of justice and answers. John retired in 2016, making even more time for his greatest passions: his family, his trumpet, and his golf.

While we are all brokenhearted to say goodbye, we are thankful for the time we had together, and all the beautiful memories. Ever in favour of a morning round of golf, John no doubt had an early tee time the sunny morning he left. Hit ‘em straight! We love you.

Peacefully, at True Davidson Acres, on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the age of 93.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Kennedy, loving mother of the late Heather Kennedy, dear friend to the late David Howie, cherished Nanny to grandchildren Cameron (Wendy) and Duncan. Joan will be dearly missed by daughter Beth (Stan Macey). Cremation has taken place.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aileen M. Sutherland, 94, on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Ross Memorial Hospital. Aileen was the beloved wife of the late Hugh Sutherland and loving mother of daughter Daryle Wright (Michael) and son David (Annette). Fondly remembered by grandchildren Michelle, Christopher (Tiffany), Amy, TJ and Brandon. GiGi to Cooper, Thomas and Nora. Aileen was a long time member of Saint John’s United Church in Agincourt. She was an avid weaver and volunteer at North York General Hospital and Agincourt Community Centre. Aileen enjoyed her last final years living at Adelaide Place in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Private family service will be held at Lakeland Funeral & Cremation Centre, Lindsay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Barbara Anne Gregg (nee Wilson) of Toronto and formally Sundridge announce her passing on Wednesday February 17, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

Barbara was our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Penny (Rick), Judi, Jeff (Kris) and Bev. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Dylan, Liam, Katie and Julia, as well as her brother Gary (Lynn), her great grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her ever loving husband of 64 years, Harry James, her sister Eleanor and her first born grandchild, Jenna Chrystine.

Barbara was born in Sudbury and grew up in London, Ontario. She met her husband Harry in Sudbury while staying with family. She went on to become an elementary school teacher and loved her career. Barbara and Harry had four beautiful children also born in Sudbury and later moved the family from Garson to Scarborough. After raising their kids Barbara and Harry moved up north to Sundridge where they embarked upon a new style of life which included The Castle Restaurant, a family endeavour. Being an active board member of the United Church and participating in both the church and community choirs were some of her favourite things along with baking for social events. Another was being surrounded by all of her family, not only during the holidays, but always.

Due to Covid, the family will have a small, private service at Jubilee United Church in North York and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Barbara Gregg’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
